Not to be confused with the similar Sky Ray (we’ll come back to them another day) Zoom was the rocket shaped ice lolly that was part of the Lyon’s Maid brand that enjoyed huge success with it’s range of ice lollies during the 1970’s

Summary

They were first introduced in 1962. Rocket shaped, they were strawberry, banana and raspberry flavour, kids loved them.

Where Did They Go?

The popular lolly disappeared research didn’t actually tell us when. However after a campaign by fans of the popular frozen treat, Lyon’s Maid brought them back for a very limited run at Morrison’s Supermarkets in May 2019.

Lasting just the one month Zoom was once again discontinued.

Commercial Break

The Lyon’s Maid brand first appeared in 1925 as part of J. Lyons & Co, a British restaurant chain, food manufacturer and hotel conglomerate dating back to 1884.

Lyon’s Maid enjoyed great success with their popular range of products particularly ice lollies during the 1970’s when many of the frozen treats had tie-ins with TV and film characters such as Space 1999 and Star Wars that were popular at the time.

The brand disappeared in 1992 after it was bought by Nestle who re-branded Lyon’s Maid to Nestle Ice Cream.

After a series of mergers and takeovers the Lyon’s Maid brand was resurrected in 2003.

It’s still with us today along with many of it’s popular products (but not Zoom).

Lyon’s Maid is currently owned by Froneri which is a joint venture between nestle and private equity firm PAI partners.
