How many people remember this clear fizzy drink from the 1990’s similar in flavour to flat Coca Cola.
Tab Clear was actually Coca-Cola’s venture into the short-lived “clear cola” movement that was popular during the early 1990’s.
Summary
A ‘diet’ type drink Tab Clear was initially introduced in the United States on December 14th, 1992, it’s UK launch followed a month later and in Japan in March 1993. Many people will not be aware that Tab Clear was actually a variation of Coca-Cola company’s ‘Tab’ diet drink ( a whole other story) introduced in the USA in 1963.
Initially proving popular with consumers. Tab Clear was, however, discontinued after only a short time of marketing in 1994.
Unlike most other “clear” soft drinks, Tab Clear contained caffeine and according to the company, had the flavour of cola.
Where Did They Go?
After a good initial response with consumers Tab Clear was discontinued after only a short time of marketing in 1994.
Reasoning behind the brand’s swift end seems to be that given it’s instant success, the Coca-Cola Company shifted marketing efforts towards it’s more established Diet Coke brand and away from Tab. The result was sales of Tab dwindled.
