Famous for it’s nylon sheets and TV ad featuring legendary DJ Alan Freeman.

Summary

Brentford Nylons was founded by Harry Pambakian who came to London (Brentford) from Armenia.

The company had a base in Chiswick and shops in many of the larger UK towns and cities.

Driven by value-lead customers who bought it’s nylon sheets and other products in their thousands. The company reached it’s peak during the 1970’s when demand was so high the company were able to open another factory in Pelaw Co. Durham.

Sadly the peak was not to last. By 1976 Brentford Nylons began to struggle and went into receivership. It was sold to London based conglomerate Lonrho. For the rest of the 1970’s it was business as usual with the workforce now reaching 1000.

Where Did They Go?

The chain began to struggle again in the1980’s. In a valiant effort to reposition itself in the marketplace all shops were re-branded ‘Brentfords’.

By the early 1990’s the company had become very unfashionable and was in trouble again.

By 1995 Brentfords was no more as 90 of it’s 160 stores were sold to Roseby’s with the remaining stores closed.
